Common myths about type 2 diabetes
Don't get too paranoid after reading the common signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes. While it is very important that you go to your doctor for a checkup, it is also just as important to make sure you are not a victim of false beliefs about Type 2 diabetes. Here are some common falsehoods people have about the causes of type 2 diabetes:
1. Type 2 diabetes is caused by stress: this is not true. While stress is a major factor in many diseases, high levels of stress have not been shown to cause diabetes. However, stress can definitely worsen the disease by triggering other medical conditions.
2. Type 2 diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar. Eating large amounts of sugar does not necessarily cause diabetes. However, like eating too much of anything, it makes you fat and leads to obesity, which is one of the leading causes of diabetes.
3. Type 2 diabetes is gender specific. Diabetes is reported to attack men and women in equal proportions. Gender has no role when it comes to who suffers from this disease.
4. Type 2 diabetes is caused by too many changes in your emotions. This is another falsehood that is mistakenly believed to be the cause of type 2 diabetes. There is no evidence that changes in a person's emotions play a role in the development of this disease.
